Windsurfers get bronze

The weather was back to normal on Thursday.

In, the early afternoon the team were lucky enough to meet and have a chat with Prince Edward on his visit to Yaverland.

Finally the sea breeze strengthened to 14 knots around 5pm. Heat 1 (including Steve Melia) was on the water first and the race officer tried to run their race twice before finally abandoning racing for the day around 6pm...

Final Day in the pool

Jersey finished in some style on the fourth day winning 2 golds, a silver and 2 bronze. Emily Bashforth smashed the Island Games 100m freestyle record and this was followed by arguably the most exciting relay event of the whole competition when Jersey came from behind to eventually catch and overtake the Faroe Islands in the 4x100m individual medley...

Jersey Mens Volleyball played Gotland this evening for the place 5-6,  and Jersey lost so got place 6, but they played really well during the whole week. Scores: Gotland -Jersey 25-22, 25-21,25-23.

Jersey ladies Volleyball

Today, the Jersey ladies Volleyball team played Guernsey and it went  to five sets,  very close game and the ladies played well, but lost in the fifth set. The scores : Guernsey – Jersey 22-25, 25-16, 15-25, 25-15, 15-11.. Jersey is playing Gibraltar tomorrow for the place 11 -12.

Wind at last

The wind finally blew enough for the windsurfers yesterday (Wednesday). Three of us made the final 8 shootout after winning or coming 2nd in the heats. Unfortunately the later races were more of a lottery due to weed, catching some on a skeg would drop speed from 30 mph to 20 mph. Justin finished 5th, I was 7th and Rob 8th. Bermuda are leading the team event with Menorca 2nd and Jersey 3rd...

Day 3 in the pool

The third day in the pool turned into an amazing finale when the girls smashed the Island Games record in the 4x100m freestyle relay and beat the Faroes by the narrowest of margins and in doing so became the first girls team to all swim sub minute. The atmosphere at the Medina centre was electric and a fitting end by winning gold. The team also recorded 4 silvers and 2 bronze.

Windsurfers still waiting.

Last two days have seen more frustration for the windsurfers. Waiting for the elusive 11 knots or more of wind, we have been teased into hitting the water five times hoping to start a race. One time the race started, only to be cancelled on the last leg.

Tuesday in the pool

Swimming gained a further 6 medals in the pool, 3 silver and 3 bronze taking the tally to 14 medals halfway through the competition but are still looking for that elusive gold.  The first day saw Island Games history with every event being won in a new record.
